ABOUT THE ARTIST: Yablonska Tetyana Nylivna – was born on February 24, 1917 in Smolensk in the family of an artist, graphic artist and teacher of literature. In 1928, her family moved to Ukraine, to Odessa, and in 1930 - to Kamenets-Podolsky, then to Lugansk, where in 1933 Tatyana finished her seven-year school and entered the Kyiv Art College. After its liquidation in 1935, she became a student of the painting faculty of the c State Art Institute, where she studied in the workshop of Professor F. G. Krichevsky. In early 1941 was held the first exhibition of works by Tetyana Yablonska. In the same year she graduated from the institute. The artist spent the time during Second world war in the Saratov region, on the Volga. In 1944 she made her famous painting "Bread", for which she was awarded the Stalin Prize (1949). The painting was exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery, its reproductions could be seen in textbooks, on posters, postcards and calendars. Since 1944 – the member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. From that time on, the artist began teaching at the Kyiv Art Institute. Soon Tetyana Yablonska was awarded by another Stalin Prize for her work "Spring" (1951). Throughout her creative life, the artist participated in numerous all-Ukrainian, all-Union and international exhibitions, among which the most significant: XXVIII International Art Exhibition in Venice (Biennale, 1956), World Exhibition in Brussels (1958). Since her student years, Yablonska has held more than 30 solo exhibitions in Moscow, London, Budapest, Kyiv and other cities. Over the years, the artist has been awarded many state awards. In addition to two Stalin prizes, she was awarded the USSR State Prize for the painting "Flax" (1977), in 1998 she was awarded the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine. She was awarded the Red Banner of Labor prize (1951), Friendship of Peoples (1977), the Award of Honor of the President of Ukraine (1997), and medals. In 1960 she received the title of People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, and in 1982 - People's Artist of the USSR. In 2001 she was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. The canvases of the outstanding artist are in the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), in the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), in the Dragon Museum (Taiwan), in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, in the Kyiv Art Gallery and many other museums and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. In 2005, the Deputies of the Kyiv City Council decided to create a museum (have not been opened yet) of the Tetyana Yablonska and assign her name to one of the capital's streets. The artist died on June 17, 2005.
