Vasylkivskyi Serhii Ivanovich
Vasylkivskyi Serhii Ivanovich – was born on October 7, 1854 in Izyum city, Kharkiv region. He studied in St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1876-1885). Mentors: M. Klodt, V. Orlovsky. Painter. The author of landscapes, historical, and genre paintings. The artist’s canvases reflect the typical nature of Ukraine. Worked: on an internship abroad, mainly in France (1886-1888). From 1888 worked in Kharkiv. Founder and chairman of the architectural and art department of the Kharkiv Literary and Art Circle (1912). He participated in exhibitions since 1885. Personal exhibitions - in Kharkiv (1900, 1906, 1912; posthumous - 1938, 1954-1955). Major works: "Spring in Ukraine" (1883), "On the Donets" (1885), "Clouds over the Sea", "Catching a Bullfinch", "Hunting Ducks" (the 1890s), "The Cossacks with Tatars" (1892), "At the sea near Kerch", "Spring", "Carols", "Fair in Poltava" (1902), "Before the Thunderstorm. A herd in the steppe" (1910), "Campaign of the Cossacks" (1917). He lived and worked in Kharkiv. The Artist died on October 7, 1917.
