ABOUT THE ARTIST: Hvorostetskyi Ivan Fedorovych – was born on April 18, 1888 in the city of Pochaiv, Ternopil region. Ukrainian artist and teacher, master of lyrical landscape. Having studied at a parish school, in the 1900s he showed a talent for drawing, worked in icon painting workshops, and was invited as an assistant to paint churches, while simultaneously studying with professional icon painters. In 1908, he entered the Kyiv Art School, where he studied until 1915. Great influence on him had Oleksandr Murashko and Fedir Krychevskyi. In 1916, Hvorostetskyi became a student at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, but was mobilized after a month of classes. From 1925 to 1928, he studied at the Kyiv Art Institute. He became a member of ARMU, later he was a member of AHCHU, the Ukrainian Art Association, and participated in their exhibitions. He taught at the Kyiv Art Technical College (1929—1934), and at the Kyiv Construction Institute (1932—1936). Since 1935, he worked as an assistant at the Kyiv Art Institute (since 1940, an associate professor). In 1936, he began managing the fine arts studio of the Kyiv Palace of Pioneers. Since 1938, a member of the Union of Soviet Artists of Ukraine. During the occupation of Kyiv by the Nazis, the artist was forced to leave his home and property and move to his native Pochaev city, where he remained in the post-war years. The artist died on November 19, 1958.
