Melikhov Georgy Stepanovich
Melikhov Georgy Stepanovich – was born on 11th of May, 1908 in Kharkiv. One of the most famous artists in Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century. He studied at the Kharkiv and Kyiv Art Institutes. Mentors: Volokidina P., Krichevsky F., Prokhorov S., Sharonov M., Grigoriev S. Since 1939 he participated in all-Union, republican, and foreign exhibitions. Worked in the field of easel painting. Master of the realistic school of art. In 1948, the Artist was awarded the Stalin Prize of the third degree. From 1945 till 1961 he taught at the Kyiv State Art Institute. Since 1948 – Associate Professor, since 1960 - as a Professor. Since 1951 – Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. From 1956 till 1960 – Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Since 1967 – National Artist of the USSR. Since 1979 – Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR. Artists' works are represented in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and in numerous museum and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. Major works: "Young Taras Shevchenko in the Bryullov workshop" (1947), "Gorky in Ukraine" (1957), "Spring 1945" (1960). The artist died on the 22nd of April, 1985.
